A few weeks ago Lilly Pulitzer sent me the greatest gift of the ENTIRE Christmas season, no it wasn't a dress, a murphee scarf, or even their iPhone 4 case, it was better, way better... It was an invitation to their Lilly Pulitzer warehouse sale on the southern, NJ/PA border. So, this Friday, with armed with my best friend Shannon, a diet coke, and a very large Dunkin coffee with a turbo shot (Side note: Starbucks isn't open at 4am), we left home at 4AM and trekked down to south Jersey to the Greater Philadelphia Area Expo Center.

By the time we got there, the line had already formed (luckily it wasn't outside the door, so we got to stay warm inside). We waited about 40 minutes in a line with the classiest, most well dressed women that 5:30 in the morning has ever seen.

Finally, when it was time to go in, we were transported into a world of prints and patterns, shift dresses and seersucker. It was AMAZING. We shopped around for a while, grabbing skirts the were orginally $158 for $50, and dresses that were originially $278 for $99...The bag was full, the bank account was doomed, it was on.

Then, matters took a serious turn for the best... I don't know that anything has made me as happy in my life as when I accidentally stumbled into the "samples and seconds" section. This is where things get serious...

Samples and seconds is a section full of heavy, heavy, heavy discounts because the items have been returned, or have slight damages. For example, I got a beautiful white long sleeved shift dress. Last season (three months ago), $278- It had the bloomingdales return receipt attached to it, because it was missing the belt. I paid $30. Replacing a belt will be so easy.

The section is also filled with samples, these are the dresses that havent been worn by anyone but the manequinn. I scored a gorgeous yellow pinstrip seersucker halter sundress with an exposed front zipper, originally $350- I paid $40.

I got three more dresses like this. Their casual wear is even better. Those polos that the mannequinns had on all summer? I paid $20. Originally? $88.

The moral of the story? No need to pay retail for Lilly! Just wait for their semi-annual warehouse sales, I believe the next one is in June- stay tuned- we'll let you know!

The National Retail Federation (NRF) recently reported free shipping offers -- one of consumers' favorite holiday promotions -- will abound this holiday season, with nine in 10 retailers (92.5 percent) planning to offer the service this year. In addition, 56.3 percent of retailers upped their free shipping budgets "somewhat or significantly" over last year, in anticipation of increased online shopping volume.

This trend in free shipping is further exemplified by merchant participation in the fourth-annual Free Shipping Day, scheduled for Dec. 16. With just 42 days before offers go live, the online event has already registered over 750 merchants who will offer free shipping for the 24-hour period with delivery by Christmas Eve.

Major players who've already jumped on the bandwagon include Lands' End, JCPenney, Cabela's, Kohl's, Macy's, DSW, REI, Barnes & Noble and many more.

The numbers from 2010, coupled with the NRF's prediction that online sales will increase 2.8 percent over last year, suggest 2011 will likely be an even bigger record buster. More than 1,750 merchants participated last year, helping the event blow the doors off Black Friday by nearly $300 million in sales, for a total of $942 million in online sales. That single statistic earned Free Shipping Day 2010 a place in history as the third-heaviest day of online shopping ever.

Media coverage of the event has always been overwhelming, with mentions including such major outlets as CNN and news programs for FOX, ABC, NBC and CBS, as well as pieces in The New York Times, USA Today, Woman's Day and the New York Daily News, to name just a few.

Halloween Recipes You'll Go Crazy For

Halloween is right around the corner, and if you're anything like me, it's a perfect excuse to start baking and have people over. I love seasonal recipes, so I figured I'd throw a few of my Halloween favorites your way.

Bleached White Bones:

You'll need:

-half package white meltable candy wafers (Michaels)

-36 pretzel rods of various sizes

-bag of mini marshmallows

-Follow instructions on candy wafers to melt them into a bowl

-press flat sides of two marshmallows onto either side of pretzel rods

-dip into white melted candy wafers

-place on sheet of wax paper and let harden at room temperature!

Goblin Feet:

You'll need:

-Half package of meltable green candy wafers (Michaels)

-Package of Nutter Butters

-Halved Cashews

-First follow instructions and melt down candy wafers in a bowl

-Next, dip each cookie in melted candy

-Place cookie on cookie sheet covered in wax paper and use spoon to spread out melted candy

-Place three halved cashews on edge of each cookie to look like toenails!

-Leave sit at room temperature & enjoy.

Forked Eye Balls:

You'll need:

- 2 bags of white chocolate chips

-12 donut holes

-semisweet chocolate chips

-tube of red decorator frosting

-2 tablespoons vegetable oil

-Melt white chips with the oil over low heat in a small saucepan

-Spear each donut hole with a fork and dip into white chocolate once melted

-Stick a semisweet chocolate chip with its point cut off in the middle to serve as the pupil

-Place forks, handle side down in a mug and allow chocolate to harden

-then, decorate with red decorator icing to add squiggly veins!

9 Costumes to Help Fido Celebrate Halloween

Cats loathe costumes but some dogs positively revel in dressing up for Halloween. Strap on a pair of fairy wings and they begin to strut their stuff, eager to trick-or-treat like a little kid.

Dressing up your dachshund can get pretty pricey, however, without sewing skills or a big budget. Here's a list of easy and frugal ideas to keep Toto happy come Oct. 31. And before you costume your canine, be sure to check out "Dog Halloween Safety Tips" from PuppyinTraining.com.

1. Octopus
This works best with taller dogs. Stuff pantyhose with a light material, sew eight of them together in a cluster, and pin to your dog's harness.

2. Chippendale Dancer
Cut the collar and cuffs from a disposable white shirt and secure to to a large dog's neck and front paws. Create a bow tie out of a strip of black cloth. Encourage donations by tucking a few $1 bills into their collar. This works really well if you have a dog able to dance on their hind legs.

3. Little Red Riding Hood
A good costume for a small dog, this one is also easy on the sewing impaired. Hit Joann Fabrics for a yard of red material with some starch to it, like felt or flannel, and a length of red ribbon. Cut the material into a hood and cape shape then baste the ribbon to the neck of the hood.

4. Gangsta Pup
Let your street-wise hound go gangsta style with a hoodie and gold medallions. Make the bling out of Yoplait yogurt lids and pick up a hoodie on the cheapside with a Petsmart coupon from sites like CouponSherpa.com.

5. Vampire
Those canine teeth will come in handy when your dog takes on the most popular costume of the decade. Simply cut a swath of black silk into a cape shape and attach it to the collar. If you have sewing skills or a glue gun, create a stand-up collar by melding red silk to a cardboard frame.

6. Winged Fairy

7. Rescue Dog

Strap an empty beer or pop can to their collar and use a long piece of red felt to create a waistband painted with a white cross. 8. Pillow Camel
From all reports, dachshunds enjoy a bit of dress up now and then. Turn your weiner dog into a camel by attaching an old sofa pillow in a caramel shade to a center harness. For a lumpier look, wrap a belt around the middle to give them two humps.

Walmart has added to their online costume section with an entire line of outfits for dogs. Here you'll find everything from maid to sheriff costumes for various size dogsand all at bargain-friendly prices. And with so many other online Halloween stores selling pet costumes, you'll likely find something fitting for Fido, whether freaky, festive or funny. Stay Organized During College Visits and Be Aware of the Most Expensive U.S. Colleges

We all know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone who's right smack in the middle of the college hunt. Whether we're doing it with our own children, watching our siblings go through it, or giving our neighbors advice based on our experience, the college search is everywhere.

I found it really interesting that Forbes put out an article today highlighting the 5 most expensive colleges in the U.S. and like everyone else, I expected the list to be some variation of "Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell and Brown"- I wouldn't have even been surprised to see a Notre Dame thrown into the mix. However, when I read the actual list, I was shocked. First things first, only one Ivy league school made the list, and it's not even number one, two or three! Next surprise, 3 out of 5 of the schools are located in New York City. Finally, there's one small liberal arts school on the list that I'd never ever heard of. So without further a due here's the list of the most expensive colleges in the U.S.:

1. Sarah Lawrence- Bronxville, NY- $58,000+

2. University of Chicago, Chicago, IL- $57,000+

3. The New School- NYC- $57,100

4. Washington University, St. Louis, MO- $56,900

5.Columbia University, NYC- $56,600

Supermarket tricks I always fall for!!!!

Supermarkets lure us in with coupons and sales, but once we're inside...POW!...they hit us with the old one-two for a checkout aisle KO. Ultimately, it pays to keep your mental dukes up when you're in the ring, but first you have to know the rules.

Here are nine tricks supermarkets like to spring on consumers to encourage overspending, along with ways you can overcome them.

1. Something smells really good.
The bombardment starts as soon as the front door swings open. Those mouth-watering smells emanate from the nearby bakery or deli, enticing you to buy the more expensive prepared foods. A grocer in New York City even pipes artificial smells into it's facility to induce shoppers to buy more. The rule, as you've often heard, is to never shop on an empty stomach.

2. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.
Ever notice how the things you need most frequently are the furthest away from the door? That's intentional; supermarkets guide you through aisles of the most attractive foods, hoping you'll give in to impulse buys.

If you only need one item, it's actually cheaper in the long run to shop at a small market where you'll be less tempted to buy unneeded items.

3. End caps aren't your friend.
End caps are the shelving units at the end of each aisle, where supermarkets place "sale" items that aren't always that cheap. They're counting on our preference to avoid heading down an aisle, so we'll just grab an end-cap item that seems reasonably priced.

Don't give in; wait until you can comparison shop midst the appropriate aisle. Better yet, find grocery coupons on your smartphone from sites like CouponSherpa.com, and see if the product on your list is available at a discount.

4. Bend and stretch your way to better prices.
Manufacturers pay big bucks for prime real estate, usually at adult eye level or, in the case of products marketed specifically to children, on the lower shelves. These corporations shell out extra cash because they know we're more likely to buy something we can see easily.

Before you grab the first item you see, take a moment to scan the entire shelf and make sure you're truly getting a good deal.

5. Losing with loss leaders.
There's a reason supermarkets advertise such cheap prices on milk, bread and other basics. These under-priced items are known as loss leaders because the supermarket is willing to take a loss to bait you into the store, where they'll make up the difference with more purchases.

There's no reason you shouldn't take advantage of loss leaders; just don't let it rule which store you shop and what you buy.

6. BOGO can be a no-go.
Deals that offer "seven for $5.50" are designed to confuse shoppers who aren't quick with the mental calculator. The same trick applies to the now popular 10 for $10 game making the supermarket rounds.

Bulk buying can be cost effective, but there are a number of variables to consider. You can fool grocery stores at their own game by checking the unit price for competing products and selecting the one that truly offers the best deal.

7. Expensive eye candy.
Product packaging is usually mind-bogglingly bright, featuring plenty of yellows and reds because these colors attract our eyes. Between this visual whirl and the bright store lights, grocery shopping can lead to migraines.

Buying generic brands is one of many ways to combat escalating food prices. Before grabbing the first item that attracts your eyes, look for less-gaudy house brands and compare unit prices.

8. Super sized can equal undervalue.
Bigger isn't always better, particularly when a manufacturer increases package size while hitting the contents with a shrink ray. This practice has become particularly popular in recent years since you're not really expected to check whether a box or can is full.

Give it a shake or visually compare product contents.

9. The checkout stand is a supermarket's last chance.
The checkout aisle is akin to its own mini mart, featuring all kinds of impulse buys. Supermarkets know we're a captive audience, so they squeeze in everything and anything that might grab your attention and add to the final bill.

Distract yourself by reviewing your grocery list, a tangible reminder that everything you need is already in your cart.

The Fall Recipe You Won't Get Enough Of!

It's finally starting to feel like Fall in Northern NJ- I'm watching college football, drinking a Pumpkin Spice Latte, getting ready to head to watch our hometown boys play in their game tonight. There is only one thing missing, Fall baking! I love fall baked goods, Pumpkin bread, caramel apples, pecan pie... but i found one recipe that beats them all! It's from Paula Deen and the Food Network.

I introduce to you, Pumpkin Gingerbread Trifle. It's perfect for fall get togethers, or just family dinner. It's light enough to be a perfect anytime dessert, but rich enough to be true, fall comfort food. Check out the recipe below:

Ingredients

2 (14-ounce) packages gingerbread mix
1 (5.1-ounce) box cook-and-serve vanilla pudding mix
1 (30-ounce) can pumpkin pie filling
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 teaspoon ground cardamom or cinnamon
1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping
1/2 cup gingersnaps, optional

Directions

Bake the gingerbread according to the package directions; cool completely. Meanwhile, prepare the pudding and set aside to cool. Stir the pumpkin pie filling, sugar, and cardamom into the pudding. Crumble 1 batch of gingerbread into the bottom of a large, pretty bowl. Pour 1/2 of the pudding mixture over the gingerbread, then add a layer of whipped topping. Repeat with the remaining gingerbread, pudding, and whipped topping. Sprinkle of the top with crushed gingersnaps, if desired. Refrigerate overnight. Trifle can be layered in a punch bowl.

From One Woman To Another: The Shellac Trial

I am sure I am not the only one out there who is guilty of indulging in a manicure weekly. I always feel a little bit bad spending the money on something that I know will only last a few days, but each time I set out, hoping this time will be different and will work out a little bit better than the last time. It's no surprise, that by day three or four I wind up with chipped nails and a whole lot of disappointment.

Now, that you've heard my long winded complaint, I'll tell you why I'm telling you all this. I set out to find something different, some type of manicure that would last, but not damage my nails the way acrylics would.

I had heard a lot about all of these new products, specifically, a new line called Shellac that involved zero dry time. I hadn't really mustered up the courage to try anything new, especially because I was worried about ruining my nails permanently.

But, the other day, after a manicure that only lasted three days, I decided to give it a shot. I am so glad I did. First of all the manicure only took about 20 minutes, and I didn't need to wait to dry. The process goes sort of like this: First, you choose a color, the only con is the colors that shellac is available in are pretty limited. Then, the tech will file and buff your nails and trim your cuticles. Then they will put on a coat of a base polish and put your hands under a UV lamp for a few minutes, then they will do two coats of the shellac color and put your hands back under the lamp, after that, two coats of the clear top coat, back under the UV lamp. After a little bit of cleaning up, a hot towel and some hand lotion, you're done.

The company promises a 14 day chip free, completely mirror shined manicure. So far, they look great! The only negative thing is that you are advised to go back to the salon and soak the polish off instead of doing it yourself. This will ensure that you won't damage your nails. It's also a little more expensive than a standard manicure. My salon does it for $25.

Fashion's Night Out Recap

For years, I've heard the hype about Fashion's Night Out, and I had no idea what it was. This year, I was lucky enough that Fashion's Night Out spread its wings a little further than its previous NYC locale, and into the center of NJ's Garden State Plaza. We started the night at Anthropologie, who was giving out free champagne or Pinot Noir. Have you ever checked out their home decor? I wasn't aware they sold anything other than clothes, but their bedding and glass ware is to die for.

After that, we made our way to the center of the mall for the Neiman Marcus Fall Looks fashion show. It was really well put together. It featured different fall looks at different price points and all different ways to wear each look. I thought I'd share with you a little of what I learned is "in" this season:

1. Lady-like chic- I know I've already told you this, but I saw a TON of lady like style in the show. It was mostly in the way of fitted shift dresses with high necklines and feminine jewelry. I love this look, especially for the office.

2. Bordeaux- I don't think I could count the amount of times that the word bordeaux came out of the MC's mouth. The red wine hue was everywhere, in all different shades and stylings. I loved it most in bags and sweater dresses, but they even featured it in toned down purples for cardigans and amped up reds for jackets and blazers.

3.Fur- This is a trend I've never really gotten into, but it was everywhere. It topped off every outfit either as a shawl or a sweater coat or even as the trim on shoes, boots and bags.

Where To Shop This Weekend: Labor Day Weekend Sales You Don't Want To Miss!

Sadly, the last weekend of the summer is upon us. For crazy people like me, it's an exciting time, because it means my favorite season, fall, is right around the corner. However, for a lot of people it can bring on a whole wave of sadness and nostalgia. While I'm sad to be putting away white sundresses, I'm so excited for all of the fall fashion that's coming out this season.

This is the perfect weekend to stock up on fall clothes, first and foremost because fashion rules indicate it's not appropriate to wear them after this weekend, but more importantly because you will not get anything cheaper than you will this weekend. Here are the great sales I've found so far:

Kohls: Kohls, as always is running tons of great deals, but it's a Kohls cash weekend too! So stock up and save, but also, use any Kohl's cash you've earned recently, before it expires!

Loft: You know how much I love, love, love Loft by Ann Taylor for weekend wear and casual work attire, but this weekend, they're renewing our vows. They're running their $35 and under event. That's right, almost everything in the store is $35 and under. That includes pants, sweaters, tops, dresses, accessories, everything. You're looking at $35 sweaters and dress pants, $25 casual sweaters, $15 long sleeve T shirts and dresses and tops, and $10 short sleeve tees for the most part. There's a few overlaps, for instance, some nicer tops are $35, but still well worth it! Also, to top it all off, take an extra 40% off sale items. Finally, you get a coupon for $25 off $50 on a future purchase for every $50 you spend this weekend.

Macy's: I love Macy's because they have everything, and I'll get to a post on this later on this month, but they are hands down THE BEST place to buy jeans ( I scored Tommy Hilfiger jeans, not on sale, for $35). This weekend, they're offering 15% off everything, an extra 25% off clearance and $10 online denim purchases.

New York & Co: This is one of my favorite places for work clothes. I get so many compliments on all of my pieces from here. This weekend, they're running a great sale, buy one get one 50% off on everything. Make sure you check this one out!

There's a few other places that haven't posted their sales yet, and probably won't until the weekend, but if I had to guess, top deals would be at Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Lilly Pulitzer and Target.

It's getting to be that time of year. The hot summer breeze has cooled; green is fading away from grass and trees; and the sound of a whistle echoes faintly in the background. The siren song of college sports is calling you to stadiums across the land.

To celebrate the season, I wanted to take a look at some of the best rivalries out there. So, get up off the couch, throw on your lucky college jersey and get ready to cheer for your favorite team.

Ohio State vs. Michigan
I might as well start off with a rivalry that has become so famous it's simply called, "The Game." The two teams have been meeting since 1897, so it's understandable a little hostility has built up. In fact, The Ohio State University website has a whole page dedicated to Beat Michigan Week. Though Michigan has fallen on tough times, electrifying quarterback Denard Robinson provides hope the Wolverines can snap their seven-year losing streak.

2011 Game day: November 26

USC vs Notre Dame
Notre Dame and University of Southern California are some of the biggest names in college football, but NCAA penalties and rebuilding years have brought both teams back down to earth. Even so, there's still a lot of excitement when the two teams battle over the Jeweled Shillelagh trophy. If you're a football fan, you probably remember the 2005 "Bush Push" play where USC quarterback Matt Leinart barely sneaks into the end zone with a little help from Reggie Bush. Since then, this game has become a favorite of college football fans in general.

2011 Game day: October 22

Alabama vs. Auburn
When you're talking about the biggest rivalry in college football, the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn is always near the top of the list. Though the game has been played since 1893, there has only been one tie. In recent years, fans have made headlines for their over-the-top antics. An Alabaman Crimson Tide fan will soon face felony charges for allegedly poisoning a pair of oak trees on the Auburn campus. While I think that's crossing the line, it's hard to not be a fan of all the funny T-shirts this rivalry produces. Oklahoma vs. Texas
Played more than 100 times, the Red River Rivalry often has implications for the Bowl Championship Series National Championship. In 2005, the name was changed from "Red River Shootout" to "Red River Rivalry" to alleviate concerns about promoting gun violence. Currently, Texas has the edge with 18 more wins than Oklahoma in the game's 110-year history. Don't expect to see fans of either team crossing the aisle for a congratulatory handshake any time soon. The division between sides is quite clear.

2011 Game day: October 8

Indiana vs. Purdue
Football, basketball, baseball...it really doesn't matter; Indiana and Purdue are rivals in just about anything. Sure, Purdue has put more men on the moon, but Bob Knight is one of the greatest basketball coaches in history. The arguments can go on and on. When it comes to both football and basketball, Purdue has a solid lead in victories. However, Indiana does have five men's NCAA Tournament Championships in basketball to Purdue's zero.

2011 Game day: November 26

Army vs. Navy
This year will mark the 112th meeting of these institutions and there's a strong argument that Army vs. Navy is the best college football rivalry around. While neither is an athletic powerhouse, bragging rights are on the line for all the servicemen and women the teams represent. It's an especially emotional match-up for graduating seniors. Since very few go on to play in the NFL, it's often the last game they'll play so everything gets left on the field.

2011 Game day: December 10

North Carolina vs. Duke
Even though this is a football-centric list, there's no way to ignore this legendary hoops rivalry. While the two schools annually meet on the gridiron, fanfare for the game is generally lacking. Duke hasn't had a ranked team since 1994 and North Carolina has recently been plagued by scandal. Really, all of the good stuff goes down on the hardwood. At Duke, students camp out for tickets in the "Krzyzewskiville" tent city up to two weeks before the big game. School officials have even installed wi-fi and ethernet ports to help students stay on top of school work.

2012 Basketball Game days: February 8, March 3

BYU vs. Utah
It's pretty tough to leave any rivalry known as "The Holy War" off the list. This one is about more than winning a football game though. Fans also see it as clash of lifestyles and values, as Utah is a public university and Brigham Young is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Even though both teams have left the Mountain West Conference, they have an agreement to continue the game for at least 10 years.

2011 Game day: September 17

Florida vs. Georgia
If you've never attended the "Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" you might want to brush up on some tailgating tips before you go. However, the "Cocktail Party" aspect of the name has been downplayed by both universities to discourage alcohol consumption. In my opinion, the official name, "Florida vs. Georgia Football Classic," is seriously boring. At least the game itself is usually exciting. Overall, Georgia has more wins (six or seven, depending on which side you talk to), but Florida has dominated the last two decades.

2011 Game day: October 29

Lafayette vs. Lehigh
You don't see a ton of marquee match-ups coming out of the Patriot League, but I can't have a complete list without including the game known only as "The Rivalry." It's the most played match-up in college football history and the 2011 game will make a total of 147 showdowns. Since the schools are located less than 20 miles apart, it's no surprise this one continues to go strong.

West Virginia University vs. Marshall
My personal addition to the college game day lineup! This is big for WV fans nationwide. As two of the biggest teams in WV, this should be a great game. As a graduate, I will be sporting my best blue and gold this weekend.

Bad For You Foods That You Should Be Eating

We hope everyone is doing alright after this hurricane hit the east coast. With all the damage and destruction and so many people having to do clean up and reconstruction, we thought you might appreciate something a little bit light and uplifting.

You know all those foods you've been starving yourself of recently? All the ones that are "too fattening", "too high in calories", or "too high in carbs"? Yeah, those. Well a recent news article says that there are a few of those foods whose benefits outweigh their drawbacks.

What are they? Read on-

1. Beef: Everyone has given beef a bad rap because of its alleged risks to your heart health and ties to vascular diseases. The truth is however, that many cuts of beef are lean enough to not bare all of those risks and include a ton of iron and protein.

2. Chocolate: Often criticized for its sugar content, chocolate is a drug for many of us that needs to be used in moderation. However, it shouldn't be banished from your diet completely. Chocolate is full of antioxidants that are good for your heart.

3. Peanut Butter: It's one of my absolute favorite spreads, but also is one that I haven't let myself have in ages for fear that it would make me put on weight. While it's definitely not something you want to go overboard with, peanut butter is a great source of protein and does a great job of filling you up. Think of it as a natural appetite suppressant.

4. Coffee: Yes, it can really hype you up, speed up your heart rate and be taken to excess just like anything else. However, coffee comes with many health benefits. The compounds in coffee have actually been proven to lower an individuals chance of getting life-threatening diseases like liver-cancer and illnesses like diabetes or dementia. So, drink up ( it's almost Pumpkin Spice Latte season, what perfect timing!)

It's almost that time of year again! You all know that this is my favorite time of year, and I'm sure many of you share that sentiment. I can't wait for college football, riding boots, Starbucks pumpkin spice latte's and chilly weather. What I'm most excited for though, is all the awesome fashion that goes with the fall season.

Here's what's what for fall fashion this year:

1. Mustard hues: I know it hasn't made an appearance in quite some time, but mustard is in. It's perfect from coats, to shoes, to pants, to tops and bags. I would just advice using it one piece at a time.

2. Rust color coats: I love this trend. Rust red or burnt orange coats and jackets are so in right now! This is a transformation and evolution of the camel color that was so in last year. I'm so excited to try it.

3. Camo- inspired cloth: All you country girls will love, love, love this one. Camo inspired prints are really in this fall. Just like mustard, use sparingly, one piece at a time.

4. Cozy sweaters- This is a fall staple, but designers are taking it to the next level cozy, cable knits, chunky sweater vests and coats are absolutely everywhere. Check out Burberry's ecrue sweater coat for a great option.

5. Up- to- there- slits: This trend is great. It's hard to find a way to show skin in cooler weather, but this is the perfect way to show just enough not to freeze to death. Try it in dresses or skirts, up the front, or the side.

6. Anything Kate- This final trend should come as no surprise, anything Kate Middleton has donned recently, or ever, from preppy to princess is totally in. Look for belted dresses, simple solids, and cute blazers.

RELATIVES OF 9/11 VICTIMS JOIN WITH CELEBRITIES AND OTHERS TO ENCOURAGE CHARITABLE SERVICE ON
THE 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11

This September 11th, 2011 marks the ten year anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11. In a drive to organize the single largest day of charitable service in U.S. history in observance of the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, MyGoodDeed (www.911day.org), a leading 9/11 nonprofit organization, and HandsOn Network, the volunteer activation division of Points of Light Institute, today launched an inspiring national public service announcement campaign.

The powerful campaign, themed “I will” features relatives of 9/11 victims and survivors of the attacks, along with celebrities and others encouraging people everywhere to engage in good deeds and voluntary service in honor of those who perished in the attacks in observance of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance.

Members of the 9/11 community appearing in the campaign include Mary Fetchet, who lost her son, Brad, and who co-founded the nonprofit Voices of September 11; Cindy McGinty, who lost her husband, Mike; Gerry Bogacz, who survived the attacks at the World Trade Center; and Dennis McKeon, who founded the 9/11 support group Where To Turn soon after the tragedy.

Also appearing in the campaign are more than 30 actors, singers and sports figures, including: Samuel L. Jackson, Mariska Hargitay, Hillary Duff, Jordin Sparks, New York Yankees’ first baseman Mark Teixeira and Cleveland Cavaliers’ Baron Davis. Each shares their good deed plans for 9/11 and urges others to join them by saying, “I will,” the initiative’s call to action to “remember by doing.”

Get Organized For Back To School!

It's hard to believe that there are only a few weeks left in the summer season, it seems like we were just planning beach weekends and picking out the perfect Lilly dresses, but soon it's going to be boots, latte's and football season, and most significantly, time for the kids to go back to school. While we know it's not something everyone in the family is looking forward to, it's never too soon to start to get organized before the madness occurs.

The best thing you can do for your kids in terms of organizing them for the upcoming school year is try to ease them gently back into their school year schedules. This doesn't have to mean cutting their last few nights of summer out, it can mean slowly but surely starting the transition. Make bed time a few minutes earlier each night from now until school starts in order to get them back in the grind of keeping normal hours.

Another great way to start getting them organized is to begin looking at their calendars and commitments for the upcoming school year. Make sure they're completely aware of what their week will look like and what the implications of that will be. I.e., you know you have dance on Wednesday and basketball on Thursday so you'll have to start studying for your Friday spelling test on Tuesday. Start filling in calendars now so you can be aware of and attempt to solve any potential conflicts before you have to solve them in the heat of the moment.

We all know that kids enjoy back to school shopping, but sit down and really plan out what they'll need in order to make their year run smoothly before you hit the stores. This will help you ensure that you aren't spending needlessly and that they have the most efficient and effective supplies to keep them organized and hopefully excited. Today's the day! You've seen me post about it on our social media sites, but cancel your plans because you don't want to miss this! It's Ridgewood's sale days!

Extreme Couponing: Target

If you're anything like us, you've become obsessed with the nation's newest fascination- that is, extreme couponing! If you're really like us, you're equally as obsessed with Target.

I found a great article the other day about how to take extreme couponing to the next level and save tons at Target.

1. Know their savings cycle- Target runs their sales from Sunday- Saturday, so make sure you check out their circular add before heading out over the weekend. They usually have awesome roll backs in every department.

2. Print before you go- Target is great because they have tons of online printable coupons, whats even better? They apparently don't have a printing limit, so you can print as many of each coupon as you want for extreme savings.

3. Shop online- With gas prices on the rise everyone's been trying to limit their shopping to online. The only problem with this? Shipping costs can be out of control. Target is really, really good about this. Not only is their shipping not ridiculous to begin with, but they almost always offer free shipping on orders of $50 or more.

4. Go for the Travel Size- the article made an interesting point saying, "Target has a large trial size section filled with items usually marked at around $1.00. While some coupons exclude trial sizes, some do not specify a size requirement. If you have a coupon that doesn’t exclude trial size, you can often score free products in this section."

Have you planned your summer vacation yet? If not, and you're still looking to get a way, I found a place that will blow you out of the water, literally.

Nestled in the heart of the Pocono mountains, you wouldn't believe something so beautiful could be so close to home. Skytop Lodge is the name of the resort, I was informed of it by a colleague yesterday at work, and decided I just had to share. It's incredible.

The resort is a dutch colonial estate the sprawls out across over 2,000 acres. It has incredible views, tons of historical charm, and beautiful accommodations. It's also a member of the very prestigious "National Trust Historic Hotels of America".

All that aside,they have everything! In the summer, beautiful hiking trails, a gorgeous freshwater lake for swimming, rock climbing, geocaching, kayaking and canoeing, mountain biking,paintball, fishing and shooting. That's all save to mention it's incredible golf course, the crown jewel of the entire estate.

In the winter, they offer skiing, downhill or cross country, snow-shoeing, sledding and ice skating.

What I found most impressive, is that while their rates are high(you're looking at least $350per night) 3 meals per day for 2 people are included with each reservation. Were not talking continental breakfast, all of these meals are offered in one of their 5 star dining rooms.

Thinking about reorganizing, remodeling or redecorating? Then this one's for you! I've researched the hottest trends in home decor and organizing for Summer 2011 and this is what I've come up with:

-Recycled Goods: This should come as no surprise, who hasn't gone green? Organic everything and recycled anything have been popping up all over the place the past few years. A huge trend this year is recycling materials to make new things... for example, seat belts turned into purses or record covers made into file folders, how about plastic bags turned into bowls? It's everywhere!

- Lighten up- Especially in the kitchen. White washed counters and cabinets are really in right now, especially for kitchens. So, spend this summer lightening your ktichen up-it'll also make your rooms look bigger and more updated!

-Go Pink- It may sound crazy, but Pantone's "it color" for this year is a mid range pink called "honeysuckle". Update your home with touches of this, or go bold and paint a whole room this color!

- Mix it up- Just like the "boyfriend" look in fashion that has become so hot when paired with feminine details, mixing it up is really in right now. Go for sharp and streamlined with feminine and opulent. It's a perfect match!

-Go Gold- Pink and gold? What? Ok, so maybe don't do them together, but gold especially in upholstery and fixtures is really trendy this year. It gives off a rich and opulent feel and can add character to your home.

We've all been saying that we wish we were more organized but with soccer practice and hockey and band and church and cooking and working and spending all that time looking for your keys, or his shoes, or her I-pod, who has the time? Now's the time to get around to it... read on for great tips on how to get organized-today!

- Get a planner that fits your needs-
I need to write things down so I love my 8 x 11 weekly and monthly school style planner (it was only 9 dollars at Target!). But if you do a lot of work from the computer then try out Google calendar, or I-calendar on your I-phone. Pick one and stick to it, and make sure it works for you. Make yourself use it and eventually it will become a routine.

-Color code
It sounds really nerdy, but color coding, specifically by family member, works wonders for moms on the go. Grab fun colored highlighters or post its and you're ready to go.

- Have your kids join in
Don't try to manage everything yourself. Show your kids which color they are, or let them pick, this way, they can open up your planner or Google calendar and know exactly which schedule is theirs. This is a great way to teach them time management too!

-Keep updated records
Target and Staples have really adorable filing systems right now. Whether you use an according file or single file folders, make one for each child for each area of their life, so you may want one for "Mollie-Sports", "Mollie- Medical", and "Mollie, School", then another set for "Mac-Sports", "Mac-Medical", and "Mac-School". etc. etc.

- Dry- erase it
It sounds silly, but there are tons of great dry-erase style options for organization on the market right now. My favorite is the weekly white board by The Board Guys. It's relatively inexpensive and is the perfect thing to hang in your kitchen so everyone knows what's going on all week!

- Keep up with it
I know it can be tough when you're in a rush but you have to stay consistent and soon enough, organization will be a habit that's tough to break!

Extreme Couponing Sparks a Trend and Stores Respond

Have you seen the TLC show Extreme Couponing? A recent article on The Consumerist found the show has sparked a trend of out-of-control couponers who ransack stores with little regard for fellow shoppers. Merchants have taken notice and many major retailers are starting to change their policies. Here are some of the big ones.

1. Rite Aid -- Rite Aid has taken the same steps as Target to crack down on shoppers looking to exploit BOGO coupon offers. The drug store chain has also made other changes including limiting the number of coupons per item to four. If inventory is running low, managers may limit the numbers further.
2. Target -- The biggest change at Target comes to their buy one, get one (BOGO) policy. They now only allow one BOGO coupon per purchase. Previously, customers could "stack" Target printable coupons, combining store and manufacturer BOGO coupons to get both items for free.
3. Walgreens -- Many high tech shoppers have even started to crack coupon barcodes, allowing them to use coupons on products they're not intended for. Walgreens is working to combat this fraud by adopting a new type of barcode. New barcodes will be able to hold more data and can better make sure Walgreens coupons are used for the right product.
4. Publix -- At Publix stores throughout the country they're also limiting the number of coupons that can be used on one product. Their new policy limits couponers to one manufacturers coupon and one store coupon per item.
5. Shopping with coupons is certainly a smart way to save, but there are right and wrong ways to do it. Here are some basic do's and dont's to help you coupon with class.
6. DO play by the rules. Couponing isn't too complicated and common sense should get you by in most cases. Rules vary store to store, so if you're planning to use a large amount of coupons, it helps to brush up on coupon policies before you shop. This includes making sure you're buying the item the coupon is intended for and checking to see if they'll accept expired coupons or not.
7. DON'T clear the shelf. In the eyes of casual shoppers, clearing entire shelves of popular sale items crosses the line between couponing and hoarding. If you really want to stock up on certain products, try making multiple trips or call ahead and ask a manager if they'll set aside an order for you.
8. DO be organized before you check out. It's a nightmare for cashiers and people waiting in line when you hand over a haphazard pile of miscellaneous coupons. It'll be much appreciated if you clip them before hand and make sure they're all facing the same direction. Also, remember to remove coupons for products you didn't end up buying. If you are using mobile coupons, have them ready on your smartphone for the cashier to scan.
9. DON'T shop during the busiest times. The stress level of those waiting in line during peak times is high enough. Using dozens of coupons takes time and will only irritate other shoppers. Instead, go shopping when business is slow. It takes the pressure off to complete the transaction as quickly as possible for both you and the cashier.
10. DO be polite to the cashier and fellow customers. Sure, you might have some knowledge other customers and even clerks don't, but it's no excuse to treat others like they're beneath you. If a cashier isn't familiar with coupon policies, stay calm and ask to speak with a supervisor. They're much more helpful if you don't lose your cool. When your cart is overflowing, give those behind you a heads up that you'll be using coupons. If someone is waiting with just a loaf of bread and gallon of milk, let them cut ahead.
11. DON'T steal coupons! A growing trend turning the tide against couponers is theft. Newspapers and newspaper subscribers are increasingly finding coupon inserts stolen. This is a big no-no and can get you into some serious trouble. Many people will willingly part with their unused inserts if you ask nicely.

2. Fire and Ice bar: A great idea I first found featured on Epicurious: If you live in a neighborhood where you can see fireworks from your yard, set up and ice cream sundae bar right before you settle in to watch the sky light up. Have tons of toppings and let everyone make their own sundaes.

3. Fourth of July Firecracker Cocktail: Remember those firecracker popsicles that we used to eat when we were kids? This cocktail is the grown-up version. It was created by The Food Network's Guy Fieri. Check out the recipe below:

Ingredients

1 ounce watermelon schnapps
1 big splash cranberry juice
1 very thin slice jalapeno or serrano pepper
1 slice lemon
1 slice lime
1 1/2 ounces tequila
1/4 ounce blue curacao
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Watermelon wedge, for garnish (optional)

Directions

Mix the schnapps and cranberry juice in a shaker; pour into an ice-filled glass.

Muddle the jalapeno pepper, lemon and lime slices, tequila, blue curacao and simple syrup (to make a batch, dissolve sugar in equal parts hot water and chill) in the shaker. Slowly strain into the glass over the red layer. Garnish with watermelon, if desired.

I decided that since school is out, I would finally redo my 10 year-old son's room this week. UPDATE: MTV Cancels "Skins"!

We got a ton of feedback from all of you about our post featuring the questionable moral standards of MTV's teen soap, "Skins". So, obviously as soon as we found out that MTV had decided to cancel the show, we had to let you know!

The network made the decision not renew "Skins" for a second season yesterday, June 9th, based on a sharply declining viewership, poor ratings, and the whole rash of controversy that the show created for MTV.

The show was created as the American version of a British teen soap. According to the network's numbers, when it first premiered in January, it debuted to an incredible audience of 3.3 million viewers, by the time the show ended it's first season run in March, it was being viewed by only 1.2 million viewers.

Although this is what the network is attributing the shows failure to, it seems obvious that the shows racy content and controversial reception were to blame. The show featured characters of 15 years of age doing drugs and having sex. This led to the show earning a TV- MA rating which meant that it's repeats couldn't air before 10PM. Another problem for the radical teen series was that at least eight of the show's advertisers, including Subway, Wrigley, GM and Taco Bell, pulled their sponsorships during the season.

So we're not sure if it was the lack of sponsorship, the racy content, the ensuing controversy, or the lack of viewers that lead to the shows cancellation, but I'm assuming that the world isn't going to suffer much without "Skins" on the air this winter.

1. Jessie James- I wandered into this adorable boutique during a shopping trip in Hoboken one afternoon and immediately, I didn't know how I ever lived without it. In shopping here, you're looking at a more casual line, earthy, natural tones, with a charming, classy twist. Their stuff is a must see next time you're on either side of the Hudson!

So, I woke up this morning to The View, and they were running a great special called, "The View Says 'I Do'" They were featuring lots of great segments on the wedding trends for summer 2011. Here's what I learned:

1. Lace Is In: Bridal dress designer Amsala Umberta was featured on a segment and she previewed some of her own designs. The one thing they all had in common- LACE, LACE, LACE and more lace. Some were more muted and simple, others much more over the top, but lace is in and you can pretty much blame Kate Middleton for that, since the trend is mostly a reflection to the gorgeous Sarah Burton she donned.

2. Short Dresses are No Longer Taboo: Short dresses used to be a no-no, but Umberta explained that in a tight economy a lot of second time brides, brides with destination or outdoor wedding, or brides looking for a more casual option for their reception are going for a shorter dress.

3. Travel With Food: No need to drag your family to Europe for that destination wedding, exotic food choices are becoming more appealing to the tried and true chicken marsala plates. Think themes, like a European cocktail hour with correlating cocktails.

4. Flowers- Bright and Inexpensive: First things first, brides are getting away from the tradition white or cream colored bouquets for themselves, and opting for a bright pop of one of their colors in a tightly wound bouquet, typically of one type of flower, to add just enough color without taking away from their dress. The segment also said that brides are opting for flower types that cost much less per stem, like carnations or mums, which are only $2 per stem, and actually looked fantastic when bound tightly in one color.

5. Casual is Classy: Reese Witherspoon wooed us all with her Tennessee style second wedding. This southern charm is really in season right now, but many bride's are nervous to let their roots reflect so much that they'll take away from the event's elegance. Nothing to worry about, echoed the experts, country charm and earthy touches can be easily and favorable exchanged for over the top opulence.

Surprising News About Kids and College

Our friends at Yahoo! ran an excellent and interesting story this week about the one money habit that many kids who go to college have in common.

This may sound crazy and trivial but a new report by the College Savings Initiative shows that kids who have a savings account in their own name are six times more likely to attend college than their peers who do not have one.

Dr. William Elliott, a University of Kansas Professor explains, " we found they were six times more likely to attend college shortly after graduating high school if they had a savings account at a younger age. So if they had a savings account between ages 12 and 15, it was predictive of them attending college later in life."

He continues saying, " that the balances in the accounts were low -- on average, somewhere around $400. Not anywhere near enough to pay for college, or even a few textbooks"
So, this is not an issue of them being more likely to attend college because it was paid for by an account started when they were a child. Rather, this was an issue of them being much more likely to attend because of financial ambition instilled in them at a young age.

Helping your kids understand financial control gives them foresight and a sense of a future to be working towards, much the same way going to college does. So, get out there and start them an account today- many banks have great kids account plans with no minimum balances etc.

Water Damage 101

For those of us who live in Northeastern New Jersey, the past two years have made us incredibly familiar with the flash flooding that's been rearing it's ugly head recently. Flooding can lead to water damage, which can damage carpets, flooring, drywall, documents and personal items. The longer water exists, the higher the risk of the development of mold and mildew which can cause major health concerns for the home's residents.

What's important to know is what you need to do when dealing with water damage in your home. Primarily, and perhaps, most obviously, get your home restored to it's original state as fast as possible. I am so excited! I accepted my first full-time job offer yesterday. I have this great office in a great town with a great staff, but the first thing I could think of was getting organized! Pizza Guide 2011

Ok, it's Friday in Lent and for many of us Catholics, that means, no meat! Yahoo just ran this great article about the worst and best pizza chains in the country. Here's there results:

1. "Least Likely to Succeed"- Sbarro Pizza. Well considering the chain is filing for bankruptcy, this comes as no surprise. My only experiences with Sbarro have been in the mall, and I don't expect top chef style menus when I'm in the food court, but Yahoo's writers said it was dried out.

2. "Most Improved" -Dominoes Pizza. You've seen their recently launched marketing campaigns, and I'd love to be the genius behind that one. They've done a great job at drawing attention to their costumer service and their new ingredients. Kudos!

3."Worst For You"- Uno's. I haven't seen many Uno's chains in this portion of Jersey, but apparently their personal pie comes with more than 2300 calories. Ick.

4."Worst Tasting"- Little Caesar's. I was definitely more familiar with these chains when I lived in Florida, where real pizza doesn't exist. I agree, totally nasty.

5."Best Tasting"- Papa John's. No surprise here. They have stuffed crust pizza, enough said.

6."Best Overall"- Pizza Hut. In particular, they were speaking of the chains "Pizza Mia" pizza. The chain also has more lowfat options than any other chain. You go Pizza Hut!

7. "Worst Overall" -Chuck E. Cheese. Between all the germs and the bad food, I don't think the children's party chain has any particularly redeeming qualities. However, I've had their pizza and I didn't think it was awful.

The Dunkin Donuts Diet Ruiner You'd Never Know About

Ok, I'm mad.

We all know that I'm a Starbucks afficionado. However, in the summer months, I switch to Dunkin Donuts. I just like their iced coffee better. Medium iced coffee with mocha syrup and a splash of skim milk, 35 calories...bam calories saved, energy earned. The problem is- normally, I grab a multigrain bagel with reduced fat cream cheese, neither of which are particularly appetizing, but hey, I'm saving calories and my health right? WRONG.

I looked up the nutrition facts the other day. Dunkin Donuts multigrain bagel with a tablespoon of cream cheese (have you ever had a bagel from there, there's way more than that). It's advertised as part of the "Dunkin Eat Smart" menu. Drum roll please- the bagel is 390 calories, and the cream cheese is another 125, putting us at a grand total of 515 calories, not including all the extra cream cheese calories they smear on. What's most annoying about this is that their plain bagel, cinnamon raisin bagels, and their poppy seed bagels were only 320 calories. Are you kidding me? 390 Calories is eating smart? No thank you. I'll be thinking twice before I order off their supposedly "healthy" menu again.

The Movies You Want To See This Weekend...

And some you can definitely skip...

I am shocked by the movie reviews for this weekend. There were some I have been waiting to see for months that are apparently total flops, and others that I'd never see in a million years, that are apparently awesome.

Did anyone else think "Arthur", the remake with Russell Brand looked great? Yeah, you weren't alone... I did too, mostly because everything he does is hilarious... but apparently, it only earned 1 out of 5 stars.

Another one that looked good and apparently disappointed, "Your Highness". All the critics are speaking volumes about how pointless it was. I've also been advised to skip "Insidious" and "Soul Surfer".

On the upside, "Hop" which is appropriate for the whole family, scored great reviews. Grae Drake of Movies.com said, "Santa is SO last year".

The shocker for me though, Jake Gyllenhal's new flick, "Source Code". I expected a bad combination of "Unstoppable" (The Denzel film from earlier in the fall) and anything that Jake Gyllenhal's been in before... Critics are giving it 4 stars. You go Jake! Another must see is "The Lincoln Lawyer". No big surprise there given Matthew Mconaughey's Midas touch, and who says beauty isn't power... please.

Spring Nail Trends- So Hot RIght Now!

March seemed to come in like a lamb and go out like a lion here in Jersey, and it seemed like spring was canceled as of April 1st, but, there's good news for all of that are like me, sick and tired of clouds, rain and cold! This Monday, the skies will open up and the northeast will see the light, in the form of a 78 degree day, followed by mild upper 60's the rest of the week... So, do you know what that means? Time to break out the flip-flops, but before you can, take your Saturday and give your toes some much needed TLC, I mean, how would you feel if you had to spend 4 months cooped up in those pointy toed McQueen boots with the 5 inch heel? I decided that before getting my spring mani-pedi tomorrow, I should check out how colors have changed in the last year, so I give to you the list of SO hot right now nail trends!

1. Nudes
Are you shocked? Anything I've posted about spring and summer fashion trends, has begun with blah, blah, nudes. They're everywhere and so in. Try a creamy beige or a natural pink. My personal favorite? Essie's "Ballet Slippers".

2. Blues
You'll be anything but blue in these hues. Light creamy blues are in across the palette this season, but definitely in nail lacquer. These shades are perfect for spring, and even better, you're nails will match your Tiffany's box!

3. Peach & Pink
This is another no brainer, pinks and peaches make a comeback just like southern girls in sundresses every time the weather gets warmer. Make sure to test out there light colors first, shades with these two can definitely be tricky! It's hard to strike a balance between too bright and barely there.

4. Purples
I know, you haven't had purple nail polish on since you were 11, well hello Dream Phone, Mall Madness and slumber parties because lavender is back in big way this spring. I like matte polishes in lighter shades, but sleek metallics are also very in.

5. Metals
So, as I was saying, metallics are in for spring. I like them in pearly shades of white or beige, but all the major cosmetics brands are putting the emphasis on slates and grays, be daring, check them out!

Hershey's Track and Field Games are coming!!

Drink This, Not That!

So as a follow up to my last post about Eat This Not That, I wanted to write something called “Drink this, Not that”. Another part of my struggle to eat better is having a bartender as a boyfriend. It makes it very difficult to avoid drinking on the weekends and we all know how unhealthy those cocktails can be... The best thing about this new calorie counting craze though is that many restaurants are now featuring Skinny Style cocktails or some variation of the same.

I was shocked when I saw that cheesecake factor now has an awesome menu of cocktails designed skinny style that are just as tasty as their regular counterparts but with 150 calories or less, and we’re not just talking the things we’ve seen skinny before, mojitos or margaritas... they even have skinny sangria and skinny cosmos, who knew that was possible?

Applebees is another franchise jumping on the skinny bandwagon. They now make Skinny Margaritas, Skinny Mojitos, and Skinny L.I.T.S (A cocktail normally running you about 750 calories in just one glass ).

Another great way to make sure you’re calorie counting in your drinks is to change your mixers. Replace coke with diet coke, replace sprite or sour mix with club soda, try mixing with Unsweetened Ice Tea with two splendas. They taste amazing!!!

Eat This Not That!

So, I was teaching my 4 year olds the other day, and one of them came running up at playtime, asking me to read to her a little book called “The Berenstein Bears: and TOO MUCH JUNK FOOD”

I started reading the story about how Papa Bear and Brother Bear and Sister bear had been eating too many "sugar balls and coco-chums and drinking too much sweetsie cola"... and I started to feel really guilty about the way I had been eating, who would’ve thought, the Berenstein Bears, enlightening huh?

So I decided that I would start eating healthier, and my mother, being the granola girl that she is (You go Darlene!) would be thrilled with my decision. The problem with this is that my junk food habit is unbelievable. I have such a sweet tooth, i love, love, love candy. I love chips. What am I ever going to do? So I started looking in the fridge and I realized that there were some great alternatives....

You Know That Crazy Looking Building Next to Giant's Stadium?

Yeah, you know exactly what I'm talking about... well, if you've been to the Meadowlands complex anytime in the last 10 years you should.

It's a big huge building with multicolored outside, covered in stripes and solids and lots of other uglies that do not go together.

Well, NJ Governor Chris Christie is vowing to rid us of the eyesore. According to the Associated Press, He at a conference yesterday, he spoke of it, "Calling it the ugliest building in New Jersey, and possibly America, Christie said Thursday that any deal to finish developing a troubled multibillion-dollar retail and entertainment complex at the Meadowlands will have to include a new exterior."

Triple Five, the owners of the Mall of America, signed a letter of intent to complete the development of the "Xanadu" complex, which was originally supposed to open in 2007 and feature,"shops, an indoor snow dome, a movie complex, bowling alley, restaurants and an upscale martini bar. But as financing fell through, it remained empty, with its most noticeable feature being its exterior"

Triple Five and Chris Christie have begun the process of negotiating of a deal for the remodel and expansion of the building. Christie is hoping to have the announcement of a final deal this Spring.

The New Diet Everyone is Talking About...

Looking for a way to drop a few pounds before the warmer weather, bathing suit season, or some big event like, oh, I don't know, a royal wedding come around? The UK's newest diet fad, The Dukan Diet, is coming to America, but be careful before you commit... it's not an easy one to stick to.

The Dukan Diet, similar to The Atkins Diet that was so crazy popular a couple years back, will have it's guide book hitting stores in the US this month. The diet outlines a protein rich, low-fat approach to dropping the lb's. In the first phase, the dieters must stick to a menu of only non-fatty proteins, I hope you love skinless turkey and chicken breast... as well as 1.5 tablespoons of oat bran daily and tons and tons of water. After a while, dieters are allowed two slices of bread, a serving of cheese, and two servings of carbs per day, and a wine and dessert option two days per week. According to Yahoo!, after they've completed the first phases, "“Dukamaniacs” (as they're dubbed) can eat anything they want, provided they return to phase one’s protein, oat bran, and water regimen one day per week."

Supposedly, the diet works wonders, with most follows dropping two pounds per day in the first week. It's also been linked to the Middleton family, the Princess-to-be's mother, Carol Middleton, has been on the diet, and it's been rumored that it's responsible for Kate's slim down as well.

The last time I wrote about spring 2011 fashion the season was just beginning, but now, it seems that everyone has premiered their line and the weather is making me itch for fun skirts and strappy tops!

I've done a lot of looking around and it seems like there's a few new must have's this season, as well as some returning starters from seasons past. I know I've mentioned this before, but the "Cross the body" bag is hot,hot,hot this season (and available at Target for $14.99). I like to buy a knock off version of new fads for a lower price first so I can see if the trend is really gonna stick before I splurge on the real thing.

Another news flash in fashion this season is that wide leg, trouser cut jeans are back! Their high waist and flattering cut will make you grateful that skinny jeans are on their way out. Pair with a neutral wedge and finally, a jean everyone can feel comfortable in!

Speaking of neutrals, gray is in, in a big way, in addition to all of the neutral and nude tones that we've mentioned in previous posts. I love it because it matches almost everything, and it's definitely at its most versatile when used on bags or pumps.

Finally, you've got to go sheer this spring. Sheer fabrics are absolutely everywhere. They're perfect for adorable tops and tunics, and if you're not totally ready to take the full plunge, try a dress with a sheer overlay.

Planning a Wedding?

So the first couple in our group of friends just recently got engaged... last weekend they were here and I was talking to the bride-to-be about all her plans. I had no idea how many details go into planning a wedding. She's done the obvious things, like pick out her dress and dresses for her bridesmaids, but I forgot that someone has to make decisions about all the little details, like what kind of drinks the open bar should serve (I think they've actually decided on something really cool, their wedding will have signature drinks that the couple comes up with in their wedding colors), and what kinds of table runners to get. I didn't realize that there's a wedding cake separate from the one that everyone sees... I never realized how much planning goes in to seating charts and deciding who brings a date and who doesn't. This girl has definitely got her hands full. I have no idea how she's balancing it all, but she is, and wonderfully at that.

But once I sat down and listened to all her plans, I realized that she needed one thing, a great wedding planning book from Caradidi. This would help her keep everything that has to do with the wedding in one, put together, polished, well-organized place. I'm going to have to get her one, and I think that I'll get her a Caradidi Guest Book for the big day too!

So, if you haven't read my post about the fat content in Starbucks food products, you may want to read it before continuing so that this all makes sense.

I wrote a post on Monday about how shocked I was to see how many calories the "reduced fat" desserts at Starbucks had, and how I didn't understand why there was only a ten calorie differences between the lighter snacks and the regular treats. Then, God and Irony decide to kick me right in the face and punish me for betraying my lover in such a way.

Tuesday, I walk into Starbucks and what do I see? PETITES.

This is a god-send if there ever was one. Starbucks, as part of their tribute to 40 years in business, has introduced a line of petite desserts, that all range from, get ready for it,100-200 calories! WIN!

They all look so good too. They have cake pops, little candy coated balls of cake on a lollipop stick, in flavors like Tiramisu and Rocky Road. They also have these amazing little lemon sweet bars and choocolate salted caramel bars. I cannot wait to try them all. The chain has also introduced adorable petite sized versions of your favorite drinks.

So this weekend, grab your favorite writing journal from Caradidi and cozy up in a Starbucks with a petite, guilt free version of your favorite snack!

How Men Should Dress for Every Occasion

Starbucks Reduced Fat- Yeah, Right!

You all know how much I love Starbucks. It's the literally the glue that holds my day together. However, yesterday, I discovered some very disappointing facts.

New York City is a place full of culture and excitement and now, knowledge. I'm sure most of you have heard through your local news broadcast, but if you haven't or haven't been to the big apple lately, let me remind you that food distributors, fast food restaurants, restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, etc. are all required to print the calories for each and every menu item in plain view for their patrons. Now, this can be a blessing and a curse. For one thing, it's impossible to eat in Manhattan without feeling guilty. However, sometimes, you find out that you've been setting your diet off without knowing it.

My local Starbucks, since it's in New Jersey, is not required to print the calories for each menu item... so I've thought for ages that I was being good when choosing their reduced fat banana chip or cinnamon swirl coffee cakes instead of their regular cakes or pastries. WRONG.
When you see reduced fat, for me at least, I assumed it could be no more than 250 calories. WRONG. Each of the reduced fat pastries are between 390-400 calories. The regular pastries (not reduced fat) run a whopping (ha!) 10 calories more at around 410 calories.

So while Starbucks has been totally fabulous at creating less than 100 calorie lattes and machiatos with their "skinny" line, their reduced fat food items could still use some re-vamping. So remember, calorie counters beware when looking in the Starbucks glass case!

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Models Share Their Fitness Tips

We've all seen the men in our lives gawking at them, but what do the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models have to offer us? Well, something, finally... Last year's cover model, Brooklyn Decker, has revealed her secrets to slimming down, and since we all know spring and summer, barely there bathing suits and strappy sundresses are right around the corner, this information couldn't have come at a better time.

1. Create a workout that incorporates cardio and weight training.
Most of us are fearful of one or the other, but without mixing both into your workout, you won't see the results you want. Mix up your cardio and alternate weight training, it'll make your workout way less boring and make your body very happy.

2. Remember, you are what you eat.
While working out is great, and will definitely make a major difference if done correctly, it isn't a free pass to eat whatever you want. High fiber foods will help you slim down, especially around your mid-section.

3. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Don't forget hydrating is incredibly important to the way you look and feel. Filling your body with water is really important, but you can also hydrate your skin from the outside. Brooklyn Decker says that her make up recommends cetaphil lotion, and says that it clears breakouts. Perfect!

What's most important about these steps is that you keep them consistent. Make these lifestyle habits rather than crash diets and you will love the results you see!!!

Celebrities Love Tiffany!

So, we all know what a little blue box on a table means, first of all, you've found the perfect man, and second of all, there's Tiffany's inside! I don't think there's one girl that doesn't love or lust any of the products in the jewelry giant's line. However, I was so excited to see that it wasn't just me that's obsessed with the notion of the little blue box... If you watched the Oscar's last Sunday, you may not have noticed, but tons of celebrities were rocking Tiffany's on the red carpet!

Natalie Portman's gorgeous earrings were Rubellite with rose cut diamonds. The award's shows co-host, Anne Hathaway's amazing necklace, earrings and ring were all from Tiffany's Lucida collection and totalled over 94 carats and 10 million dollars.

Doodle 4 Google??? or Doodle for Caradidi????

Wanna know what's been going on at our house over the last two weeks? "Doodle 4 Google!" My son has been working on his Google creation with dreams of seeing it on Google and $15,000 in his pocket!! He was a little bummed when I told him that it was for college, but there are other cool prizes also. I told him I would not post it here..... yet!

Barbara Walters Put's Jessica Hahn on Blast!

Barbara Walters is like TV royalty, in the world of talk shows, she's about as untouchable as Mother Theresa, at least to me. Recently, one of her guests on The View attempted to put her on blast in front of the entire studio audience and national viewers.

Hahn, who allegedly had an affair with the Televangelist Jim Bakker back in the 1980's was on the show as part of a "Where are they now?" segment of The View. When asked about the affair on the show, Hahn made a very obvious attempt at denial and deference, and responded, "This wasn’t an affair,” she said. “Unlike, I don’t want to be cruel or anything, in your book ‘Audition,’ you had an affair with a senator."

Barbara kept her cool as usual. She responded by saying, "This is about you, my dear. This is not about me, OK?” "I'm very happy talk about my relationships, but this is about you,"

I know from experience, it can be hard to think on your feet in a situation like that, but I give Barbara a ton of credit for handling it with the amount of poise she did. I think it's pretty forward of a guest on her show to call her out on something that she's already been incredibly straightforward about, but it seems like The View can't avoid drama these days. Regardless, I give her props for her quick thinking and class. You go Barbara!

Royal Wedding Chatter!

I don't know about you, but I am completely melty and mesmerized over weddings in general, but the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William?! Please, reading even the littlest scraps of their wedding gossip has become my guiltiest pleasure. It all started with a gorgeous sapphire and diamond ring, and plans for a spring-time wedding, but Yahoo!'s "Shine" section reported some interesting new details earlier this week.

First, the couple has chosen their siblings, Prince Harry, and her sister Pippa to serve as their best man and maid of honor respectively. What really struck me however was the fact that the rest of their wedding party, comprised of various cousins, godchildren and staff's children, have an average age of around 7. The oldest member of the wedding party is the 10 year old son of William's private secretary. I'm not sure if that's typical in England, but a little unique for the USA.

In other news, Victoria Beckham, A.K.A. Posh spice, has reported that Kate asked her for a collection of her designs, probably not for the actual wedding day but for the dinners, luncheons and parties that will precede it.

The couple has also decided that they will live in Buckingham palace, where William grew up, after they are wed.

The most interesting piece reported by Yahoo! though was that Ellen Degeneres apparently broke news this week that she should be on the guest list, as she's Kate Middleton's 15th cousin.

Spring Fashion Trends I'm Loving Already!

With warm days like today, even though it's only February, I feel like spring is right around the corner... and since we all know how quickly the days go, it'll be May before we know it (I hope). I'm currently obsessing over a few spring trends!

1. Nude shoes
A good neutral, skin colored pump is the perfect shoe for spring. First of all it works with anything, a pencil skirt, a dress, jeans, even shorts, second, and the best part probably, it blends with your skin and makes your legs look even longer!

2. Light nails
nude again? You guessed it. A light colored nail, pale pink, light beige, even clear is perfect for spring. The best part? These colors are difficult to see and so, difficult to mess up, so you can do them yourself and save money!

3. Bold colors
It may be a fashion risk for a lot of us, but just one brightly colored piece is enough to make an outfit pop perfectly for spring.

4. Aviator shades
So, this is a total carry over from last year, but aviators, in my opinion will never get old. They just scream summer! Try a pair with a gold frame and a dark burgundy lense. Perfect!

Perfect Ideas For Valentine's Day

Here it is... Valentine's Day is right around the corner, literally... For those of us who aren't sure what to do for that special someone, Monday's going to come faster than any Monday has in a long while. I try to stray away from the cliche and do something different, but ideas can be hard to come up with especially if you're like me and you're unsure if you even buy into the whole idea of this "Hallmark Holiday"... I've found a couple of ideas that are new, exciting, and don't totally make me want to throw up for being so corny...

Wine- being the bartender's girlfriend, a good bottle of anything is always a sure bet, especially if it's something new that we haven't tried before. Try out a new bottle together this Valentine's day... the best part about this one? There's a bottle for every budget!

Tickets- even if it's a country music concert 4 months from now, tickets for a great show or event provide you too with a guaranteed opportunity to spend some time together in the future.

Trips- I know it sounds like this one could get expensive, but I found airline tickets from Jet Blue to Florida for $80 each way, that's a great price for a weekend get-away!

Something you know he needs- his sneakers are falling apart? His gym membership expires next week? He hates walking out to start his car in the AM and has been eyeing that remote starter for months? I know it may sound un-romantic, but a gift like this shows that you're attentive, you're apart of their everyday life, and you know them enough to know what they need... and trust me, whatever it is, it'll be a lot more useful than the roses that are going to die by Wednesday.

Restaurant Tips From The Waitstaff

Before becoming a bartender, my boyfriend was a waiter at a pretty well known pub in our area. I love to hear the stories he comes home with. They're excellent. The things people do when they're out astonish me sometimes. So, I found it particularly appealing when I found this great article on Yahoo! about things that go on behind the scenes in a restaurant. I've picked out my favorites for you:

-"Don't propose. It's so cliché. But if you do, warn us first. We'll put you in the corner. Nothing's worse than a crying woman in the center of the restaurant. Trust me"

-"We’re not allowed to tell our customers we don’t like a dish. So if you ask your server how something is and she says, “It’s one of our most popular dishes,” chances are she doesn’t like it."
—Waitress at a well-known pizza chain

-" If you make a big fuss about sending your soup back because it’s not hot enough, we like to take your spoon and run it under really hot water, so when you put the hot spoon in your mouth, you’re going to get the impression — often the very painful impression — that your soup is indeed hot."

- "Sometimes, if you’ve been especially nice to me, I’ll tell the bartender, “Give me a frozen margarita, and don’t put it in.” That totally gyps the company, but it helps me because you’ll give it back to me in tips, and the management won’t know the difference. "

-"If you’re having a disagreement over dinner and all of a sudden other servers come by to refill your water or clear your plates, or you notice a server slowly refilling the salt and pepper shakers at the table next to yours, assume that we’re listening."

Superbowl Survival: Keeping Your Sanity During the Big Game

I love football... I love friends.... and I love food, so it follows that I should love hosting giant superbowl parties every year. How does it follow then that entertaining a bunch of men for 4 hours can be a daunting task?

Superbowl parties can get expensive and messy. So here are some suggestions for keeping the day mess and stress free!

Pre-plan
I mean everything. Make as much of your menu as possible before hand and freeze it so you can actually enjoy the game. This way all you have to do is throw some stuff in the oven for easy heat up and serve.

Disposable, Disposable, Disposable
I know it may not be the classiest way about things, but disposable plates, bowls and flatware will save you so much time and effort. This way, you don't have to worry about washing dishes or cleaning anything or about your grandfather's beer steins being broken by an over-excited fan.

Just Relax
It can definitely be difficult to let go and chill out when hosting a party, but remember that the majority of your guests will probably be your husband's guy friends, and they aren't really interested in judging you. Just keep it simple, sit back and enjoy the afternoon!

So, we all know that Jersey's been getting pelted with this ridiculous, frigid weather, and I'm not sure about anyone else, but between shoveling my car out and getting stuck in the end of various driveways, I've had enough.

I know that most people think it's a little bit senseless, but I was thrilled when I heard that on his 125th forecast, Phil the Groundhog, SAW HIS SHADOW!!! Which means, the wait is over Jersey! Spring is most certainly on its way. (I hope...) I never understood what the Groundhog's Day traditions were rooted in, so I decided to do some research...

Apparently, the holiday originated in Germany. Superstition indicates that if a "hibernating animal sees it's shadow on February 2nd, the Christian holiday of Candlemas, winter will last another six weeks, if he does not see his shadow, legend indicates that there will be an early spring."

So, there you have it New Jersey, get excited because Spring and warm weather should be well on it's way! I'm going to have to get ready to break out the sundresses and Sangria! Can't wait!

Calorie Counter Part II: The Cocktail Edition

So, as promised, I've done some homework and come up with a list of low calorie cocktails so that you can enjoy girl night out, totally guilt free!'

1.The Skinnygirl Margarita
As developed by Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel, this pre-mixed cocktail packs all the punch of the margarita you love but with half the calories. The drink tastes amazing but is only about 100 calories per glass and only about 12.99 per bottle. Perfect!

2.Applebees SkinnyBee Drinks
Along the same lines as Bethenny Frankel's bottle, the restaurant chain has developed a line of low calorie cocktails that taste incredible! The options include mojito, long island ice tea (most LIT's range between 300-700 calories, this one's only 100, try finding that anywhere else!) and margaritas.

3.Champagne
Always classy and calorie-friendly! Who doesn't love a good glass of champagne? What's even better- it's only about 85 calories a glass!

4.Gin and Diet Tonic
This is one of the best, especially in the summer time, a shot of gin is about 64 calories and diet tonic has no calories, so the entire drink winds up being less than 65 calories. Add a lime for extra flavor and enjoy! *Note: many bars don't have diet tonic, if need be, you can substitute for club soda which is also calorie free.*

5. Malibu and Diet
This is my absolute favorite! Malibu has such a sweetness to it that I totally expected to be off the calorie charts, then I found out, it's only 51 calories!!! Mix with something calorie free like Diet Coke or club soda and you can have a great tasting, almost calorie free cocktail!

So, next time your ladies plan a great girl's night out, you don't have to feel guilty or give up on your diet, keep with your game plan and have a great time!

Calorie Counter Part I: The Hot Drinks Edition

It's freezing in Jersey again today and we just got pelted with another 10+ inches of snow... great. The only thing that gets me through day like today is the promise of a good latte or cappucino and flannel sheets. There's only one problem... a lot of those drinks can fill you out in addition to filling up your soul. I've made an effort to compile a list of drinks that will keep you warm, while helping you stay svelte...

1. The Starbucks Skinny.
A few years ago, Starbucks developed these little gems... less than 90 calories in a tall latte... as opposed to 212 calories in a standard flavored latte. This way, you still get your syrup flavors (caramel, cinnamon dolce and vanilla mmmm....). If you're willing to be really daring and ditch the flavors, do a standard latte with nonfat milk and it's only 50 calories!

2. The Keurig K cup
While I love Dunkin and Starbucks' espresso drinks, with the rise of the Keurig we can save money, time and CALORIES! Most K- cup drinks only have 70 calories. They have a huge variety of flavors including : mocha latte, chai tea latte, hot chocolate. ** So far, this is the lowest calorie hot chocolate I've come across... (Starbucks has 203 calories when made with skim milk)

3. Switching to Tea
I know a lot of us have ruled out tea as something for our grandmother's and the English Monarchy, but tea has become really trendy lately. With its rise in popularity tea brands have been putting out tons of great new flavors for drinkers. I'm particularly fond of herbal teas, because you drink them without milk. They have really fruity undertones. Try Starbucks' passion tea, hot or iced, with no milk and two Splendas and its 0 calories!

4. Coffee Over Espresso
Many of us have come to love the frothiness of a good latte or cappuccino, but if you're trying to cut back, switch to coffee. Add a sugar free syrup (they have no calories and can be bought at a store for around $4.00 and come in great flavors like chocolate, caramel, Irish cream, and vanilla- Starbucks also has them in caramel, vanilla and cinnamon dolce) and skim milk and you're saving almost 150 calories, but not skimping on the flavor.

I know that for those of us who are Starbucks addicts, switching drinks can be as intimidating as switching husbands, but I'm telling you, you won't regret making these healthy changes! "Jordan loves her peace notebook - she is using it for writing her poetry and has started with a poem about her favorite puppy - Snickers. She has transferred all of her school work and agenda to her notebook and has been showing it off to her classmates! She loves the colors and the fabric design which gives her a unique notebook for school. I love my pink and brown organizer. It's great to have my address book with my planner pages - and I love having the note pages too. I love the flip-flop dividers which makes it very unique and so "me!" I am in the process of putting together the photo album - love the fabric and the size is great. I haven't started using my writing journal yet, but I am challenging myself to try and write weekly and to get some of my creative ideas down on paper.

I placed pictures from 2010 of Justin and Jordan in the palm photo album for my mom and dad and gave it to them for Christmas. They love the fabric and it looks great on their coffee table in their living room."

Olive Garden Breadstick Lovers Beware!

So, I was perusing Yahoo! this morning and I found some very disturbing and disheartening information...

I am obsessed with the Olive Garden, and I've always thought that I couldn't be behaving totally horrendously when only ordering the unlimited breadsticks and salad lunch. After all, it's an italian restaurant, I'm not eating alfredo sauce here... more than half my meal is salad, right? WRONG! Olive Garden's alluring lunch combo just topped David Zinczenko's (author of "Eat This Not That"/ Food & Diet Mega-God) list of "Worst 'Free' Restaurant Foods".

Zinczenko reports that some of the most horrific items on any restaurant menu are the ones that they slap on your table free of charge. Also on the list? Red Lobster's "Cheddar Bay Biscuits" at 100 calories a piece, Ruby Tuesday's "Endless Fries" at 360 calories per serving, Denny's "Free Shortstack" pancakes at 470 calories a serving, and then, as i reported above, the mother of all freebee foolishness, the Olive Garden's "Unlimited Salad and Breadsticks Lunch" coming in at 500 calories per one serving of salad and one breadstick... I'm sorry... one 3 ounce bowl of garden salad and one bread stick does not constitute lunch for me, so the damage can only get worse from there.

So, for those of you counting calories this season, stay away from the evils of free meal sides... I'm so disappointed, but still glad I found out about all this before the next time I hit up the Olive Garden.

Skins? GTL? What Is MTV Teaching Our Kids?

I think almost everyone, well maybe not everyone, but way more people than I would've originally expected, have fallen head over heels in love with the Jersey Shore. However, upon a second look, I start to wonder how the shows impacting our area's youth...

I'm a teacher, and I've overheard 12 year olds, 6th graders talking about what went down in the Jersey Shore house last night.... what?! The boozing, the partying, the sleazy and scandalous shenanigans... I mean, I get college kids enjoying the crew's antics, but middle schoolers? Really?!

What makes it worse is MTV's newest show, "Skins" adapted from a hit in the UK, is really racy to say the least. The show follows a group of very,very, very misbehaved teenagers and reportedly featured over 42 instances or depictions of drugs and alcohol as well as a multitude of innuendos about teen sexuality. It also dealt with a plot revolving around one of the teens abusing prescription drugs, the actor who plays the character is only 17. Further, for its explicit cinematography and misguided plot, "Skins" may be facing child pornography charges. Tons of brands, including Taco Bell have already pulled their advertising spots that aired during "Skins"...

What concerns me most though is the young age of audience shows like "Skins" and "Jersey Shore" draw... How do you feel about these shows? Should we turn off the TV power? or should MTV pull the plug?

5 Winter Accessories You Can't Live Without

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I cannot stand the cold weather we've been getting here in NJ anymore. The only thing that gets me through the frigid months from January-March in the Northeast are the adorable accessories that I get to wear only in the winter months. So, I present to you, the 5 winter acessories that you cannot live without this season... they'll warm you up, body and soul...

1.The Russian Trapper Hat
I never though I'd be caught dead in one of these.... then, I put one on. This is by far the warmest hat you will ever wear. Maybe it's not the cutest thing you've ever seen, but I mean, I guess it be cute in that really ugly sort of way... regardless of what it looks like, nothing will keep you warmer...and there's something about the cute flaps that make you feel full of sunshine, despite the winter blues.

2.Camel Leather Gloves
My discovery of these came along when I was getting ready to go out one night and someone told me my gloves looked like "mom gloves"... not that I'm even sure what that means, but I'm pretty sure it's not a good thing. The streamlined silhoutte makes this simple and sophisticated gloves a perfect classic.

3. Black Suede "Over-the-Knee" Boots
While it can definitely be difficult to maneuver ice and snow in heels, these boots are a can't miss for the winter season. Their suede makeup makes them super warm, but they're dressy enough for with tights and a dress and casual enough for jeans and a sweater. Perfect!

4. The Super Long, Super Warm, Knit Scarf
We've been obsessed with Pashminas for well over a year now... BUT tis not the season! Pashmina's light silk material makes them a go to summer accessory... When it comes to winter, the long chunky scarf is king... especially in rich, deep, colors with tassels or fringe trim. The Gap has tons of great options!

5. Plaid Burberry (or knock off) Earmuffs
Ok, like the Russian Trapper Hat, I know it sounds crazy, and it really depends on how daring you, but earmuffs are back! They keep your ears warm but are more feminine than a hat (and they won't mess up your hair) Burberry has great ones in their logo print, but there are plenty of knock offs available at any department store.

Changes in Astrological Signs?

Ok. As women, we know that throughout our lives, our size may change, our hair color may change, our cars may change, hell, our husbands may even change... but our astrological signs changing? That's one I didn't see coming.

It happened. Apparently, due to a shift in the way the Earth is positioned at the sun, each of our zodiac signs have now shifted as well. This has caused the application of a new zodiac sign... "Ophiuchus" which now happens to be my sign... Apparently, Ophiuchus is "heavily muscled person holding on with difficulty to a veritable anaconda in the sky" (According to Time Magazine). If you're an Ophiuchus like me, you may have the following characteristics:

Volunteer and help others
In my day job as a school director, one thing that we ask our students to do when they visit new places is to do some kind of community service there. That gives them a better sense of the place they’re visiting and is also a way to give back to the community that has given to them. Idealist.org helps you find new ways to give back, whether in your own hometown or in a foreign country that you’re visiting for a couple weeks. If you find yourself unable to leave home, Change.org gives you the chance to make a change by learning more about social causes. Read more books
Some staggering statistics showed that, in 2007, 1 in 4 adults read no books during the previous year. However, with the advent of the Kindle and e-book readers, reading seems to be picking back up as America’s favorite pastime again – or at least it’s in the top 10 list. Someone smart figured out that reading could also be married to social media and thus gave birth to Goodreads. Goodreads allows you to share your past and current reads, opinions and commentary with friends and strangers. Yes, it’s another social media tool but at least it gives rise to a brain-strengthening activity. If you don’t know what to read, check out NPR’s Three Books series or The Browser’s Five Books section. Both give recommendations by experts or famous people on a variety of topics.

Spend more time with family
We all should spend more time with our friends and families. After all, more and more studies are surfacing that testify to the power of human contact. So why not take a break from social media and just do it!

Recently entrepreneur Derek Sivers gave a 3 minute TED talk on the idea of a “social reality” theory – that when we tell others about our goals, we’re less likely to accomplish them. Why? Sivers claims that by announcing that objective, your mind tricks itself into feeling it’s already done and thus you’re less motivated to actually do said thing. However, to combat this, plenty of folks these days are tweeting their goals and milestones. For example, Peter Wilkinson tweeted as he ran the London Marathon as a way to gain attention for Amnesty International, the charity for which he was running. His goal was 4 hours, and he finished in 3 hours and 30 minutes. Perhaps in publicly announcing our goals and where we are, the simultaneous public accountability and support provide the extra boost of confidence we need.

I've always told her, for the size of what she's been looking at, she can live in my shed, but she found something last night that is so perfect, so adorable, that I wouldn't want to live in my shed either...

This is absolutely the most adorable little thing I have ever seen. I'm ready to give up my dreams of having any children or possessions so I can fit my life into one of these.

Best Books For Women in 2011

Here in NJ we've got another 5 inches of snow! I can't believe how cold it is... but there's nothing better to do on a day like today than cozy up in bed with a glass of wine and a book. Since the start of the new year, I've been looking for something great to read ... you know, something that will keep me interested enough that I'll set aside the time in my busy schedule to finish it. I've found quite a few books that seem like perfect "chick lit" picks to cure the winter blues...

1. The Time Travelers Wife- Audrey Niffenger
Some of you have probably seen the movie, which I thought was excellent, but the book came first, so I'm assuming its got to be better. This is the story of Henry who travels through time, and his love affair with Clare, who he met time traveling when she was a very young girl. Its strong characters and quirky plot will make it a difficult read to put down.

2.Commencement- J. Courtney Sullivan
I loved this one! Remember those 5 girlfriends you hung out with all the time in high school or college? This is about you guys. The author takes us through the twists and turns of a relationship between 4 college friends as they grow up, apart, and back together.

3.Jack's Widow - Eve Pollard
Are you a Jackie O fanatic? I am... This book was something totally different than all the typical look at the first lady non-fiction pieces. Its a work of fiction based on the life and experiences of Jacqueline Kennedy. The story is driven by the death of JFK and the plot rides the ups and downs that may have followed Jackie through widowhood. Its a great piece for any woman who's ever lost anything or found her independence.

4.Sammy's Hill- Kristin Gore
This one's a little bit lighter. Al Gore's daughter's debut novel didn't change my life or anything but her sharp tongue and sarcastic humor kept me laughing the entire time I read about Sammy's work on Capitol Hill. Plus, Kristin's one of the writers for Saturday Night Live, so you know this has got to be good.

5.Room- Emma Donahue
I haven't read this one yet, but here's what is being said about it,

"Jack and Ma live in a locked room that measures eleven foot by eleven. When he turns five, he starts to ask questions, and his mother reveals to him that there is a world outside. Told entirely in Jack’s voice, ROOM is no horror story or tearjerker, but a celebration of resilience and the love between parent and child."

The novel is being celebrated by all of the A list players in the literary world, definitely a must read.

Winter Proofing your Home with Mike Holmes

It's a crazy cold winter here in NJ if you ask me and I am looking for ways to keep warm and save money! :D I got this info via email today and thought it was good enough to pass along. Please let us know if you have any other tips to share. Good luck and stay warm!!!

Winter storms can wreak havoc on your home, and end up costing you a lot of money in the process. Winter proofing your home doesn’t have to be costly or overwhelming, and can give you piece of mind, while keeping you and yours safe and warm.

Here are a few tips from Mike Holmes, star of the popular television series “Holmes on Holmes” and “Holmes Inspection” as seen on HGTV and the recently launched magazine Holmes: The Magazine to Make it Right, on how to keep your home safe as you weather yet another storm in this frosty winter season:

The most important thing to remember when preparing to weather proof your home is that you don’t want water from melting snow to get behind any exterior sheathing — the stucco, siding or bricks. If it does, the wood framing and structure will get wet. You want your exterior structure to be able to repel water, but if any does get in, you want the water vapor to be able to escape. It’ll dry out eventually, but repeated wetting and drying will lead to rot. You also don’t want the water to get further inside; if it soaks the insulation, that’s bad, because it’s very difficult for moisture to escape once it’s trapped within the building envelope.

Start by clearing snow away from doors and windows. Snow melting could come in windows, doors and other openings in the house which could lead to mold issues. Keep the walkways and steps clear by scattering salt to keep ice from building up on concrete. Make sure to keep snow away from all air vents that bring air in for furnaces and hot water tanks. Should your area receive a large amount of snow, make every effort to hire a pro and remove large snow deposits from roofs and away from intakes, doors and windows, as large quantities of melting snow, especially on roofs, can cause a great deal of damage to not just siding and insulation, but gutters as well.

Remember, winter proofing your home is as important as weatherproofing your car. The more you take care of it, the better it takes care of you…

Cashmere:
* Density: does the sweater snap back into shape after you stretch it a bit? A loosely-knit sweater won’t. Manufacturers who knit loosely are trying to save money.
* Texture: should feel very smooth on your sensitive fingertips, without any prickles.
* Color: Cashmere is white, grey, and brown, with white being the most valuable. When the original cashmere is very white; the less dye the better, as it changes the feel of the finished product. A dark-colored cashmere will often be considerably less soft than a white one.

Wishing All of You a Very Wonderful Holiday

Here at Caradidi, we love what we do. Nothing is more enjoyable than creating gifts for you, that your loved ones will remember for years to come.

We had a wonderful day yesterday. My family exchanged gifts in the morning, and had an early dinner. Then we ran to the next town over for dinner with the other side of our family. After that, we met up with some friends for dessert. It was fantastic just to slow down and catch up, to tell people you love them, and see them open gifts that make them happy.

As great as yesterday was, today may be even better. Since Christmas fell on a weekend this year, we're all off, and its snowing. So now we're all snowed into this house together to do nothing but watch football games and DVDs we got for Christmas. We're thoroughly enjoying all of the decorations and each other's company. I love the business of the holiday season, but even more, I love the slowness of this weekend, the way that we enjoyed meals together, rather than running out to run errands, and the way that today we haven't moved from our spots on the couch. I know we may sound totally lazy, but sometimes you just need a day (or a few days) like this. So, take today, and enjoy it. I'll leave you with this quote I heard yesterday:

"Love is what is in the room if you stop opening presents and look around."

Attention all my wino-s! I have found the most fabulous wine, its a must have for 2011. It was recommended to me by someone I work with. Ever heard of Cupcake Vineyards? Neither had I until this winter. Its incredible. The vineyard is situated in Monterey County, California. Its creator, Adam Richardson is originally from Australia and makes it his personal mission to make wines that reward the drinker, and believe me, they do. They have a great blend called "Red Velvet" that's a mix of zinfandel, merlot and cabernet sauvignon , and it goes perfectly with a red velvet cupcake. The vineyard bottles everything you can think of, pinot grigio to pinot noir, petite sirah to reisling to champagne. A Funny Story to Up Your Christmas Spirit.

So,we all know (mostly because the retail commercials have drilled into our brains) that this is the final weekend for Christmas shopping. But,before you go out and about to finish up and face the frustrations of lines, crowds, and rudeness, I'll provide you with a tale for your journey.

I think it was Wednesday night, I went out to WalMart photo center to pick up these gorgeous holiday photos my mom took as a gift for a friend. I got all the way down there, stood for 25 minutes in line and when I went to pick them up, the guy started looking around and I knew immediately that they weren't there. Now, I can understand mix ups, no problem. However, the guy behind the desk asked me when I ordered them, I told them at 3pm from 1 hour photo and they were promised by 4pm. It was now 7pm, and he laughed in my face, told me "ha, they'll never be done tonight" and walked away to help the next costumer. I was fuming with how rude he was. So I went to get a manager, stood for another 25 minutes, was told they weren't there, but he did tell me to come back tomorrow and they would be free (score!).

Thursday night I came back, I waited 35 minutes in line. I was still furious, because I had so much to do. Then, when they actually found my pictures and I told them they were supposed to be free of charge, I had to wait 15 more minutes for the manager to come and confirm that. He never came, so I went to customer service and he signed off on my order. It was now almost 9, and my boyfriend was supposed to be getting out of work in an hour. "Thank God" I thought, I couldn't wait to vent to him. Then, almost as soon as I thought of it, my phone rang, it was him, some girl had said she was sick and needed to go home. We both knew she wasn't sick because she had been sitting at the bar drinking 15 minutes earlier, and so he got moved to cover her late shift, til midnight. That meant he wouldn't get home til 1230 at the earliest and I had to wake up for work at 6. "Gosh, can I get a break" I thought. I was still furious and I was walking through Walmart when I started to lose my balance in my high heeled boots, which annoyed me enough, then, almost faster than I could realize, I went flat down, in the middle of Walmart, right on the floor and two little girls were laughing at me. I couldn't help but start cracking up. I guess it was just what I needed to realize how much these stupid little problems I had been facing didn't matter.

So, as you're heading out today, remember, life is too short to be aggrevated, just take a deep breath and laugh at all the chaos :)
