So, I woke up this morning to The View, and they were running a great special called, "The View Says 'I Do'" They were featuring lots of great segments on the wedding trends for summer 2011. Here's what I learned:
1. Lace Is In: Bridal dress designer Amsala Umberta was featured on a segment and she previewed some of her own designs. The one thing they all had in common- LACE, LACE, LACE and more lace. Some were more muted and simple, others much more over the top, but lace is in and you can pretty much blame Kate Middleton for that, since the trend is mostly a reflection to the gorgeous Sarah Burton she donned.
2. Short Dresses are No Longer Taboo: Short dresses used to be a no-no, but Umberta explained that in a tight economy a lot of second time brides, brides with destination or outdoor wedding, or brides looking for a more casual option for their reception are going for a shorter dress.
3. Travel With Food: No need to drag your family to Europe for that destination wedding, exotic food choices are becoming more appealing to the tried and true chicken marsala plates. Think themes, like a European cocktail hour with correlating cocktails.
4. Flowers- Bright and Inexpensive: First things first, brides are getting away from the tradition white or cream colored bouquets for themselves, and opting for a bright pop of one of their colors in a tightly wound bouquet, typically of one type of flower, to add just enough color without taking away from their dress. The segment also said that brides are opting for flower types that cost much less per stem, like carnations or mums, which are only $2 per stem, and actually looked fantastic when bound tightly in one color.
5. Casual is Classy: Reese Witherspoon wooed us all with her Tennessee style second wedding. This southern charm is really in season right now, but many bride's are nervous to let their roots reflect so much that they'll take away from the event's elegance. Nothing to worry about, echoed the experts, country charm and earthy touches can be easily and favorable exchanged for over the top opulence.
