We're all guilty of it. Lusting after that Kate Spade bag for months, but not exactly loving the $398 price tag, for a brightly colored bag that only works with one outfit. At that point, our next door neighbor's purse party becomes incredibly appealing. But how can you avoid counterfeit corruption and protect yourself from bad knock offs?
1. Avoid internet shopping (for knock-offs that is)
If you have to buy a knock-off, experts say, don't do it online. Many times, online knock-off sales are corrupt or run by scam artists. If you're going to buy a knock-off online, do it through a reliable site such as Ebay. Further, make sure the seller has an approval rating of at least 95%.
2. Think about it.
Is it a need or a want? It may be a fraction of the price of the real things, but $40 is still too much to pay for something that's going to sit in your closet and get thrown up next spring cleaning.
3. Matching games.
What does it go with? Before you buy, step back and visualize your closets, what do you have to wear it with? It sometimes become difficult to avoid the buyers lust that comes with seeing something at a significantly lower price. Making sure you aren't buying just because it's a steal, or buying just to buy.
4. Quality counts
When buying designer knock-offs, don't drop $50 for garbage. Make sure it looks like something you want to walk around in public with, and make sure it isn't completely distinguishable from the real thing.
The long and short of it is, high ends clothing and beautiful designer accessories can get expensive. Knock-offs are sometimes a necessary evil, but make sure your shopping smart so you don't end up with a closet full of stuff you never use.
